Dr. Richard Sadowitz has been practicing Gastroenterology in Chattanooga, TN since 1994. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. Dr. Sadowitz received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, at Gainesville and his doctorate from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Dr. Sadowitz completed a fellowship in Digestive Diseases at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey.  Dr. Sadowitz’ scope of practice includes, but is not limited to, Upper Endoscopy, ERCP, Capsule Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Liver Diseases, Infrared Coagulation for the Treatment of Hemorrhoids and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.




Dr. Susan Pauline Raschal, D.O.

Dr. Raschal is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine specializing in Allergy and Immunology.  She earned her Osteopathic degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine.  She completed her internship at Metropolitan Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri and her residency and fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.  She is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.




Dr. Glenn N. Pomerance, M.D.

Curriculum Vitae - 

As an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Pomerance diagnoses and treats all disorders of the eye.  He specializes in cataract and refractive surgery.   He recently received the Alcon Centurion Award for outstanding LASIK procedures.  Dr. Pomerance graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and completed an internship in surgery and a residency in Ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Pomerance holds staff privileges at most area medical centers and is a member of many national, state, and local medical societies.  Dr. Pomerance has participated in numerous clinical research efforts, including Contrast Sensitivity Testing as a measure of efficacy in treatment of glaucoma and macular degeneration and pharmaceutical testing including those for dry eyes, anti-infectives and anti-inflammatories.




Dr. Mark M. McKenzie, M.D

Dr. McKenzie has been practicing Internal Medicine in Southeast Tennessee and the Chattanooga area since 2002. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology Degree from Southern Adventist University in 1991. After spending 4 years working as a Medical Technologist, he decided to study medicine. He completed Medical School and Residency at the Medical College of Ohio at the University of Toledo in 2002. He recently left group practice to start The McKenzie Center for Internal Medicine.




Dr. Gene K. Lee

Curriculum Vitae - 

Dr. Lee attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for his Bachelor’s Degree and then completed his Medical Degree at Emory University School of Medicine in 2005. He completed his Internship at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado and his residency at Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Opthalmology in 2009. He currently practices at the Pomerance Eye Center in Chattanooga, TN.  He has conducted a research project on gram stain in evaluation and management of corneal ulcers and is currently investigating new topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in isolated perfused rabbit and human corneas with and without an epithelium.




Dr. Deborah R. DiStefano, M.D.

Curriculum Vitae - 

Dr. Distefano is one of Chattanooga’s best known physicians.  She first came to the area in 1982 as chairperson of the Department of Ophthamology at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  She completed her Medical Degree, Internship and Residency (Chief Resident) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. DiStefano completed her fellowship at Harvard in 1982.  Dr. DiStefano has numerous publications and awards to her credit.  In 2004, she founded a charitable organization that helps families with monetary support while undergoing treatment for cancer.  She is currently the owner of DiStefano Regional Eye Center.




Brandy R. Biederman, MSN, FNP-C, CDE

Research Sub-Investigator

Brandy R. Biederman is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over ten years of clinical practice experience specializing in Endocrine disorders.  She studied at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and attained her masters of nursing at Middle Tennessee State University.  She is currently in her own practice focusing on diabetes and thyroid disorders.  She is a certified insulin pump specialist with all of the current pumps on the market.  She also speaks for numerous pharmaceutical companies.  As a Certified Diabetes Educator, she travels around the country bringing the latest updates to physicians and training patients on how to utilize new drug therapies.  She is a member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and the Endocrine Society.
